Independent with solar power from SOLARA

Solar power for off-grid systems, stand-alone systems

Many regions of our planet still lack electrification. According to statistics, over two billion people worldwide currently have no access to a reliable energy supply. Yet, even in emerging and developing countries, nothing is possible without electricity: schools, government offices, hospitals, and all communication via mobile phones or the internet depend on a dependable power supply. This is where SOLARA stand-alone systems, also known as island systems or off-grid systems, make a significant contribution to the electrification of remote regions through self-sufficient power generation.

Solara stand-alone systems for locations without a power connection

SOLARA specializes in customized off-grid solutions for a wide range of needs and requirements. These complex systems include not only the solar array but also a charge controller and an inverter. This allows solar energy to be stored locally in batteries and used to supply consumers with 12 volts DC or 230 volts AC.

SOLARA QUALITY FOR 20 YEARS

SOLARA's solar modules, components and complete photovoltaic systems are used wherever there is no reliable power grid available: in remote areas of the world, at sea, in technical facilities, and in traffic control and telecommunications systems.

SOLARA's stand-alone systems are designed to withstand even harsh climatic conditions without any problems. They are extremely robust, versatile, and optimally utilize light for energy generation even under unfavorable conditions.

To ensure the quality and performance of the SOLARA product range, the modules and mounting systems are manufactured in Germany.

Each solar module is tested and certified according to strict quality standards under ISO conditions. Upon completion, each solar module is individually measured under internationally recognized STC conditions and registered with a unique serial number.

Small off-grid system with six SOLARA solar modules

Ralf Z. from the Upper Palatinate sent us the following pictures, taken with his drone, of his new self-sufficient off-grid solar power system with 230V inverter for watering the plants on his property.

The solar panels produce direct current (DC) which charges the batteries. Two of the 12V solar panels are connected in series to provide sufficient voltage to charge the 24V batteries. An inverter then converts the DC from the batteries into 230V alternating current (AC). Fuses, switches, and other components complete this exemplary installation.
The electrical components on the installation panel, from top left to bottom right:

  1. EATON DC switch
  2. Dehn surge protection (DC)
  3. phocos inverter
  4. Small distribution board (AC) with residual current device (RCD) and fuses for sockets
  5. Equipotential bonding rail (bottom left)
  6. Small distribution box (AC) with fuse for generator connection
  7. CEE 3-pin for generator connection
  8. NH fuse switch disconnectors for batteries
  9. 4 x 12 V batteries (48 V system)

SOLARA stand-alone or off-grid systems of the latest generation

SOLARA Mini Grid System graphic

SOLARA stand-alone systems, also known as off-grid systems, are ideally suited for rural electrification in emerging and developing countries due to their flexibility.
For example, our MINI GRIDS are scalable up to 300 KW and reliably and permanently supply even entire village communities.

Even regions that are already electrified, where the public power grid often fails for days or hours due to an overloaded or dilapidated infrastructure, rely on SOLARA. Our SOLARA backup systems can bridge outages and supply gaps at any time.

We have systems for every need

SOLARA solar module operating principle

Even in the low-power range, reliability is a crucial criterion. Whether for a mountain hut or a measuring station, a small solar system is often sufficient to ensure a reliable power supply, even without complicated inverters. These small DC-coupled systems have the advantage of being quick to set up and easy to transport, yet they are still capable of providing energy for lighting, radio, TV, cooling, etc.

Furthermore, the systems form a solid foundation for more complex systems. The modular design offers maximum flexibility. Additional components can be integrated at any time, step by step, as energy demands increase.

The SOLARA planning tool

Off-grid solar power systems (e.g., for holiday homes) are as individual as their users. To reliably fulfill their purpose, they must be precisely planned and tailored to the specific needs, the installation location, and the user's behavior.

Such systems include a solar power system and devices (charge controllers and inverters) that ensure that the energy is stored locally in batteries and that consumers are supplied with 12 or 230 volts AC.
